Dear Parents,
Our newsletter is coming home a day early this week because we are also sending home progress reports. These reports specifically look at student study skills and behavior at school. No marking means that the student is currently doing at great job. An "I" means that your student is improving on this task and an "N" means that your student needs to continue to make improvements. Also, we have attached some reports from our online grade book and IXL! These will help show the academic areas for continued growth and the areas where students are succeeding.
Along with these progress reports students are bringing home their portfolios! Please take some time to look over your student's work with him or her. They have been doing a great job developing their reading, writing, and math skills and they are ready to show it off! Any work that is not three hole punched into their portfolio can stay at home.
Please take some time to look over their portfolio and sign their progress report. Both of these should be returned to school on Friday, November 11th.
Other important notes:
· We are in a poetry unit. Students are learning more about figurative language (tools poets and writers use) and the different kinds of poetry. Next Friday (11/18), students will present their poems to the class during our 'poetry slam'.
· Students should be practicing their math facts at home every night. Many students have "mastered" their multiplication facts on IXL. This does not mean that they do not need to practice any more. They should continue to practice at home until they are automatic (less than a 3 second recall).
· Have you seen your student working on IXL? Students should be well on their way using this great online tool! We will be sending home progress reports next week reflecting their work. You can check how they are doing any time by signing into their individual account. Please have students practice every night!
· Don't forget Bookmatch Blast! Students must read 20 books by the end of the semester. The more time students spend reading, the more they will learn and the better readers they will become!
Have a great night!
Miss Mulvahill
