So You Need to Know the Continents and Oceans?
In Social Studies, students have been working on the Continents and Oceans. We have also begun to talk about reading maps and directions.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, there will be a short quiz on the continents and oceans. Students need to be able to identify all 7 continents and 4 oceans. There is a study guide going home today.
Here is a fun little review if you'd like to use it to study!

This week we did writing and we are making cause & effect stories. We read a Train to Somewhere and its long.We learned about subjects and predicates in grammar and its kind of hard. Our class had MAP tests and on the math one I took over 1 hour and I was the last 1 done.In social studies we looked at where the 7 continents and the oceans are. Our target skill this week is sequencing but it will be something else next week.In math we used compasses and paperclips can be a compass also. And that was about our week at school.

Building Teamwork and Building POLYGONS!
In math this week we learned about polygons and parallelograms. (Ask your student about our parallelogram rap!) Students worked together in math class to build different size polygons out of straws and pipe cleaners. Here are students working together to build a polygon with as many sides as they can!

Giving new meaning to "hands-on" learning!

Week in Review by Marlee
Dear Miss Mulvahill's families and parents,
This week we learned about parallelograms. We also made a rap with it. And we also we got a class room blog! I think that is cool. We also sang a song called Just a boring square. I like it a lot I think the class likes it too.
I think that what we did on Thursday was the best about the week. We put shaving cream on our desk and we had a little spelling test! We learned about setting and decagons. That was fun. We also did social studies on a map. Today, we are voting for student council. There is a lot of kids in our class that want to be in it. My favorite part about the week was the shaving cream. I am super sad that the week is over!
Thank You,
Marlee

Parent Night Tonight!
Welcome parents to room 206!
Students brought home their green "Take Home Folder" for the first time today. This will be where they will keep all of their notes home from me and all of their homework. Please keep an eye out for this folder!
Don't forget that tonight is parent's night. Our 4th grade meeting is at 7pm. I hope to see you all there! (And I promise to give a few Viking's updates throughout the meeting!)

First Day of School
Hello Students and Families,
It is good to see that many of you have stopped by our classroom blog! We will continue to implement more and more of our work on the blog as we go through the year. This is a great place to stop by if you have questions on assignments or upcoming exams.
Today was a great day back in the classroom! We started to get into the swing of our school day, picked out our independent reading books from our classroom library, and got to know our classmates a little better.
Tomorrow, we will determine our classroom rules, take a reading placement test for upcoming guided reading groups, and share our souvenirs from the summer!
Don't forget to bring your souvenir (it can be a photograph, drawing, or item from your summer vacation).
I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
Sincerely,
Miss Mulvahill
